I met my friend Nik for dinner one night at Hill Country BBQ in Brooklyn, and he showed up looking like my dad in the 1980s with this big, grizzly beard. He said he couldn’t wait to shave it off but had been too lazy, so I suggested we take advantage and do a flower beard photoshoot. He immediately agreed, to my surprise, so I found some little white daisies to decorate him with. I kept waiting for him to ask my advice on what to wear, as I naturally had strong opinions about his peacoat being the preferred choice in outerwear, but of course he showed up on a Sunday afternoon looking perfectly like the hipster sea captain I had in mind. It was actually way too windy for the flowers to stay put for long, so Nik had to pluck them off the ground and re-style himself while I set up the shots, but we got a few to work out. And hey, the non-flower shots aren’t bad, either.
